Activities and Balance of the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation in 2023

Environmental Education for Teachers and Students

At SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation, environmental education plays a vital role in educating and mobilizing society with socio-environmental knowledge and values through training, projects, and practical activities.

In 2023, we held another edition of the "Learning with the Atlantic Forest" program, which aims to integrate the school community with the Atlantic Forest and to highlight the Forest Experimental Center, the headquarters of SOS Mata Atlântica, as an educational space. Eight schools participated in the program, involving 763 people from elementary and high school levels. Additionally, teachers and students developed socio-environmental projects.

The blended learning course "We are the Atlantic Forest" [Somos Mata Atlântica] focused primarily on educators: 26 professionals from Cotia's municipal network completed the training course. They presented action plans aimed at bringing more nature into schools and classrooms, tailored to each location’s specific realities.

Doors Open for the Public

Visits to our headquarters, a former coffee farm where 386 hectares of native forest are undergoing restoration, are crucial for strengthening bonds and inspiring our supportive audience. Among all activities—five themed editions of "Open Gate," a "Holidays in the Atlantic Forest" edition, "Learning with the Atlantic Forest" program, partner visits, and events—we welcomed a total of 2,294 visitors to our headquarters.

Snoopy and His Gang Teach Us to Care for the Planet

The Hall of Fame for Atlantic Forest defenders gained some illustrious characters in 2023. Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Woodstock, and other Peanuts characters starred in the newest educational and interactive space at the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation headquarters. Featuring classic games like memory games and true or false, modular panels for landscape compositions, relief maps, riparian forest models, and an illustrated timeline, the Educational Space Snoopy and His Gang in the Atlantic Forest aims to offer an educational experience about the Atlantic Forest through the Peanuts characters, suitable for all ages.

The inauguration took place in November and was attended by journalists, content producers, and Peanuts brand partners. During its operational period in 2023 alone, the space welcomed over a thousand visitors.
